What is Hydro Jetting?
Hydro jetting, also known as jet rodding, is a high-pressure water cleaning method that is used to clear sewer lines that a cable isn’t able to restore. With this method, we are able to calculate the perfect water pressure and then propel pressurized water through the pipe to break apart and get rid of any physical obstructions.
How It Works and What It Is For
Hydro jetting uses a flexible high-pressure hose fitted with a jetting nozzle that’s able to shoot at multiple directions at the same time. The nozzle is able to propel water in front and behind simultaneously, and it will go through the full interior of the pipe as the water travels. Hydro jetting is super effective for grease accumulation, scale, and organic buildup because it cleans the center of the pipe as well as the pipe walls, unlike a cable which usually just cleans the middle. It is the method that many different places use like commercial kitchens, large buildings, and any line where recurring blockages point to buildup along the pipe walls. The Problems Hydro Jetting Solves

Grease Accumulation
Specifically cooking grease, oils, and fats stick onto pipe walls over time, especially in commercial kitchen drain lines. Hydro Jetting scours across the pipe walls at pressure levels that are able to break these things up and clear your lines.

Fine roots that end up entering sewer lines through joint gaps respond well to high-pressure cutting nozzles that are able to split roots at the pipe wall. Hydro jetting is very effective for this, especially in the early stages of root intrusion.

While far less common than commercial lines, in some cases, residential lines, specifically kitchen drain lines, bathroom branch lines, and sewer lines that run from your home to the city’s main line, are in need of hydro jetting because there is a lot of buildup. Hydro jetting is appropriate once a line has been cleaned multiple times with a cable, and still isn’t cleared like it should be, or when a camera inspection reveals that there is significant buildup in the pipe.
Commercial & Multi-Unit Buildings
High rises, apartment complexes, restaurants, and any commercial facilities present larger lines, higher flow demand, and more strict scheduling constraints compared to residential properties. We always inspect the inside of your pipe with a camera before working to assess the pipe condition and material. Pipes with significant cracks, corrosion, or structural compromise are identified before any work begins, and we will adjust our approach to clean the pipe accordingly.
How often should a commercial kitchen or restaurant schedule hydro jetting?
The recommended frequency really depends on the kitchen volume and service history. It is often recommended to at least call a professional out for service semi-annually, and potentially even quarterly, but after assessing the information specific to you, we can give you a more personalized recommendation.
How often should a multi-unit apartment building schedule jetting?
Building lines in multi-unit properties accumulate buildup at a very high rate, and that’s why we often recommend semi-annual or annual maintenance. We work with property managers to establish a personalized maintenance plan based on the building line’s size, occupancy, and service history.
How do I know if I should choose cleaning with a cable or hydro jetting?
If the issue is a first time problem for your line or something that isn’t having a major impact, we will most likely recommend cleaning with a cable.
