Homes in Hoffman Estates Weren't All Built at Once
For those that didn't know, Hoffman Estates got its name from Sam and Jack Hoffman, a father and son who owned a construction company and bought 160 acres of land here back in 1954. They started building homes, and as more people moved in, the residents voted to make Hoffman Estates a village in 1959. Unlike Rolling Meadows, where most of the houses were built within a few years of each other, Hoffman Estates was built over a much longer period of time. In 1960 there were about 8,300 people living in Hoffman Estates, and by 1990 there were over 46,000. This means that depending on where you live in Hoffman Estates, your home could be over 60 years old or it could be fairly new, and the plumbing issues you face can be very different depending on when your home was built.
If your home was built in the 1950s or 1960s, your sewer line is most likely made of clay tile with joints every few feet, and tree roots have most likely found their way into those joints by now. If your home was built in the 1970s or 1980s, you've most likely replaced things like your water heater and sump pump at least once, and things like shut-off valves, fixtures, and drain lines might be starting to wear out. If your home is newer, your pipes most likely still have a lot of life left in them, but things like sump pumps, ejector pumps, and water heaters don't last as long and should be checked on to make sure they're working properly. Regardless of when your home was built, feel free to give us a call any time and we'll be happy to help.
What To Do If Your Sewer Backs Up in Hoffman Estates
In Hoffman Estates, the village takes care of 187 miles of sewer main lines, over 5,200 manholes, and 16 lift stations. Homeowners are responsible for their own sewer line from the house all the way out to where it connects with the village's main line. If your sewer is backing up, the village actually recommends calling the Public Works Department first. Here's how the process works:
Call the village: Between 8am and 4pm, call Public Works at (847) 490-6800. Before 8am or after 4pm, call the Hoffman Estates Police Department at (847) 882-1818.
The village checks the main line: Someone from the village will come out to your home and figure out where the problem is. If the blockage is in the village's main line, a village crew will come out and clear it.
Call a licensed plumber: If the problem is not in the village's main line, then the problem is in your sewer line, and the village will recommend calling a village licensed plumber to rod out your line.
If the problem ends up being in your sewer line, give us a call at H2O Plumbing and Sewer Services any time and we'll be happy to come out and help. If rodding doesn't fix the problem, we'll use a camera to inspect your sewer line and find out exactly what's going on.

Great service, friendly, affordable price, and very informative. Nick was very professional and got the job done right. The toilet and tub was overflowing every time we used any water in the house. Problem fixed, happy family.
We had a plumbing emergency. Todd came out on a Sunday, diagnosed the problem, and completed the work the next day. No more leak, good price, and spectacular customer service.. Couldn't recommend more.
