When Is a New Sewer Line Installation Required?

Not every problem means you need a new sewer line, but some problems leave you with no other choice. We always professionally assess the situation to confirm a new sewer line is the right way to go before starting any work.

Home Additions

Adding a bathroom, kitchen, or other type of addition to your home often means the current sewer lacks capacity or a new connection point is needed. During our initial assessment, we will assess whether we can connect to the existing line or be required to install a new line.

Septic-to-Sewer Conversion

Properties that have been using a private septic system and are now required, or choosing, to connect to a municipal sewer need a full new installation. In Illinois, you are required to connect to the main sewer line when one is available for connection within 300 feet of a residential property, and most villages agree with this requirement unless there is a physical barrier or local ordinance that blocks the connection.

Complete Line Failure or Collapse

Severely deteriorated, collapsed, or root-invaded sewer lines sometimes cannot be repaired in the condition that they are in. If camera inspection confirms total failure, we will most likely recommend a full replacement and install a new line for you.

Our Sewer Installation Process — Step by Step

Every new sewer installation H2O undertakes follows a structured process from the first site visit through final inspection. Here is what to expect.

Step 1 — Site Assessment & Line Locating

We will come out to your property to assess the current conditions, locate the municipal sewer, confirm all requirements, and determine the best route for your new sewer line.

Step 2 — Permitting

New sewer installations require permits here in Rolling Meadows and the surrounding areas before we can begin the work. We handle permit applications, coordinate with the local works or building department, and schedule all required inspections so you don’t have to worry about anything.

Step 3 — Excavation

Once the permits have been approved, we’ll call the Illinois utility locating service and wait for all underground utilities to be marked before beginning the work. Once that is done, we will excavate along the planned route from the building foundation to the municipal sewer as planned during the original assessment.

Step 4 — Pipe Selection & Installation

We will install code-approved pipe and correctly size it beforehand to ensure reliable drainage for a long time to come.

Step 5 — Municipal Connection & Inspection

The connection to the municipal sewer is done in the presence of the local utility or public work present when that is required. A municipal inspector will review the work before we are able to restore the area.

Step 6 — Backfill & Site Restoration

After passing the inspection, we will restore disturbed surfaces to have them as they were before the work began, and we will clean up the job site to make everything as easy as we possibly can for you. Any pavement, concrete, or landscaping that was affected by our work will be taken care of before we are done.

H2O carries Illinois State License #055-034086. All work is performed in full compliance with local building codes and municipal requirements.
