When You Need a Pipe Repair

Thankfully, not every pipe repair calls for a complete repiping. Many water pipe issues are in isolated areas of the pipe, meaning only a repair is necessary, which means a quicker fix and things running smoothly in your home.

Common pipe repair scenarios H2O handles:

· Isolated copper leaks — A single section of a pipe develops a crack or a pinhole either from age or corrosion. We fix this by cutting out the damaged section and installing a new section of pipe.
· Joint and fitting failures — Connections that are threaded or soldered together and have weakened or separated are resealed or replaced without disturbing the surrounding lines.
· Impact or freeze damage — A pipe that has been cracked by freezing temperatures or a bad impact needs to be repaired or replaced in the affected area.
· Visible corrosion on accessible pipe — Mineral deposits on copper or rust-scale on iron signal a spot that is getting weaker. We can replace this spot before it leaks.

We will always locate the source before we even think about opening up the wall. Then, we will use the least invasive method possible to fix the pipe, and restore the area once we’re done so it looks as good as new!

When Repairs No Longer Make Sense

At some point, constantly repairing the same system forces you to replace it. We help homeowners know when this is happening with their pipes by informing them of the facts and giving our professional recommendation.

The following examples indicate a full repiping is the best choice for your water pipes:

· Galvanized steel pipe —Galvanized systems, which were installed before the 1960s, are known for corroding from the inside out, which gradually restricts water flow and discolors the water. Once rust appears at fixtures, the pipe wall is already compromised throughout.
· Low water pressure throughout the home — Internal scale buildup in aging pipe narrows the path for water to flow through.  Repairs to individual sections don’t restore system-wide pressure.

· Repeated leaks in different locations — Two or more leaks within a short period of time signal system-wide deterioration, not just isolated incidents.
· Preparing for a major renovation — If your walls are already open, repiping at the same time helps avoid disruptions later.

We always evaluate the full system before suggesting a repipe. We will always recommend what the best option is for you, whether that be repiping or a repair.

H2O's Repiping Process

A repiping project is methodical, not disruptive. H2O follows a structured process — from the first assessment through final inspection — so you know exactly what to expect at every stage.

Step 1

Assessment & Material Selection

We will inspect the current system, evaluate the overall condition throughout the home, and select a material that will work best for you. Some examples are copper for longevity, or PEX (when allowed) for flexibility in tight spaces.

Step 2

Wall Access and Installation

We will open as few spots as we possibly can to ensure minimum disruption. The new pipe is run through walls and ceilings using the path that requires the absolute least drywall removal. All work is always done to code, and permits will be obtained where required.

Step 3

Phased or Full Replacement

Depending on the size of your home and the current condition of your existing pipes, we may complete the repipe in several phases while keeping water running to critical fixtures, or, we may complete the full repiping in one session.

Step 4

Service Restoration & Inspection

Once the repiping is done, we will pressure-test the system, restore water service, and walk you through the work we’ve completed. A final inspection will be coordinated when necessary by the local municipality.
